This weekend we head just North of Leeds to share our goodies at the brand new Minimal Waste market
in Burley-in-Wharfedale. We know that many of you are big fans of our yarns and products because they are made so locally to us, using many of our region's heritage breeds. But our commitment also extends to conserving our wonderful environment that enabled our products to exist in the first place, which means doing our best to keep waste to minimum. Of course our yarns themselves are all natural fibre and fully compostable and degradable along with our ball bands which are printed on 100% recycled paper. Even for our trade retailers our plastic yarn bags are (unusually for our industry) completely recyclable.
But there's always room for improvement! For a long while we were annoyed by our plastic mailing bags but struggled to find a decent, affordable alternative....until we turned to potato sacks! You may notice your parcels of baa ram ewe loveliness start to arrive at your door looking like this- much better! We're still working on some of the remaining plastic use in our web store operations and ensuring where we do use single use plastic, for example bubble wrap and other packing, it has always been reused from our own deliveries.
If you live locally to our store, we offer a few incentives for you to pop in rather than opt for delivery. You can always select our 'collect in store' option on the web site, which of course is completely free, no matter how little or how much you spend. We also have our generous in store loyalty points scheme which gives you money off future purchases. And then there's our Titus Pick n Mix returns policy, which gives you £1 off any future purchase when you bring back your empty Pick n Mix tube
. If you have any other ideas let us know!
And it's not just about our customers. The baa ram ewe team had a bit of a brainstorm and came up with a few ways to reduce our own waste at work. We all got most excited by the return of the milkman
to 180 Harrogate Road!
The commitments we've made are not normally the cheapest option and these costs are not always passed on by an increase in prices. We hope for you these are just another few reasons to choose to support us. And if you are in the Ilkley area this weekend, come by and say hello!
