This is Armley Mills in West Leeds. It was once the world's largest woollen mill and is now our city's Industrial Museum
, sharing our region's rich heritage of wool production with generations of families and school children who visit. This weekend the mill combines its fascinating archives, machines and exhibits with a selection of modern day woollen artisans and retailers (including us!) at the Leeds Wool Festival
. Whilst it's always nice to browse and soak up the atmosphere at a yarn show, we encourage you to linger a little longer here, and take some time to look round this very special museum. Watch a 1904 spinning mule in action, find out what a "Full Monty" really is and be inspired by the beautiful textiles galleries. We have fond memories of holding our Yorkshire Wool Week here 6 years ago, and I'm sure there are many of you who came and along...here's a little reminder:
And if 6 years ago feels like a long time, it's almost 9 years since we first opened our doors! Rather than pass the parcel, we thought we'd have a different sort of birthday competition......where you could win 9 hanks of your choice of baa ram ewe yarn absolutely free!
Perhaps you've got a large sweater or blanket project that's been on your wish list for a while, or maybe you're collecting all of our shades and there are a few gaps. Perhaps you want to try out a variety of our yarns before you buy. Well now's your chance. Make ANY purchase (no minimum amount) either in store or online between now and Thursday 7th June and we'll put your name in a hat. We'll draw a winner and announce them in next week's newsletter. Offer is subject to availability and not available at yarn shows. Good Luck!
