One of our first ever community projects back in 2009 was making a 'knitted garden' by yarn bombing a small green space in Holbeck just south of Leeds' city centre. Connecting to - and being inspired by - nature has always been important to us and has influenced our choice in selecting our local charity for this Summer's One Day Sale on Saturday 14th July.
Those of you that live locally may well know of wonderful places such as Hollybush Conservation Centre
and Skelton Grange Environment Centre
. Run by The Conservation Volunteers charity (TCV)
these are very special places that help people make that natural connection with their local environment,
tackling loneliness and bringing people and communities closer together. There are TCV centres and projects all over the UK and we urge you to go and visit- or even volunteer some of your time! Alternatively you can just buy something from us on our Sale Day and we'll donate 10% of our entire profits
that day to TCV. This includes full price and sale items online and in store, so please show your support and do spread the word.
We're doing our Sale Day differently this time, launching to our in-store customers at 10am, and to our online customers from 12 noon to midnight. This is to help us manage stock and resources, and to avoid duplicated purchases, which can sometimes happen on this busy day. As usual we'll have 40% off lots of yarn and books - we'll send you more details closer to the date.
July also sees the start of the wonderful Tour de Fleece
campaign, a global spinning event that runs alongside the Tour de France where spinners from all over the world spin for each day of the tour. The idea is to give yourself a personal challenge and to have fun with like minded people, and we'd love you to join our baa ram ewe team! Whether you're just starting out with spinning or been at it for years, come and be part of the fun - sign up for free or get more details here
. We'll also be making all of July's free Thursday knit nights at the shop Spin Friendly, so grab your wheel or spindle and head on over from 6 to 8pm.
