Why Choose Our Wool?
There are so many reasons to love this wonderful fibre! Wool is a natural, renewable fibre that has been used for centuries to create warm, comfortable, and durable clothing. It has a wealth of natural beneficial properties that make it ideal for knitting garments that you hope to treasure for a lifetime.
Wool is warm & breathable. Wool is a natural insulator, holding heat close to the body in air pockets created by the natural crimp in the fibre. It can also help regulate body temperature in warmer weather by wicking away moisture and allowing it to evaporate.
Wool is naturally odour resistant. Wool tends to be more odour resistant than other fibres, such as cotton and polyester. The naturally hygroscopic properties of wool fibres allow the garment to absorb large quantities of water vapour. This keeps moisture away from the skin, preventing bacterial growth, and locks it away in the garment until it is washed.
Wool is biodegradable. Unlike acrylic and polyester yarns, at the end of its life, wool will naturally decompose in soil within months and release nutrients back into the earth. This means it won’t build up in landfill or contribute to micro plastics in the ocean.
Wool is naturally flame-resistant. Wool is less likely to ignite in comparison to fibres such as cotton and polyester and if something does cause it to burn, it will self-extinguish.
Wool is hypoallergenic. Wool is less likely to cause allergic reactions than other fibres and is great for people with sensitive skin.
Wool varies in texture, softness and structure from one sheep breed to another. To learn more about the differences between each wool that we stock, take a look at our guide.
